A Gold Medal Ski

Weekly ski trips are back in mode.

Most will believe that Ste-Annes began as a group of athletes dedicated to rugby. But a lesser known fact is that we were a cross country ski-club before we were a rugby club. If you don't believe this jump on board for a ski before the winter ends. In a good year (and believe it or not this has been a great year) there are a few compulsory skis: The montagne noir trail, where skiers pas by a crashed world war two bombers (one of the crash victims was a soldier, J Silverstone). The back lake ski which is usally accompanied by shovelling the museum roofs up in St. Hippolyte, the Ridge Trail, the Khyber Pass, Rigaud and of course the mountain/suana ski downtown.

Half of these have been acomplished!!!! And this weekend we hope to attack either Montagne Noir or the Ridge (or who knows, both). Last weekend a group of club members took on the Montagne Blanche which has rapidly become an RFC classic. This mountain trail was cut in the last few years by a M. Lapierre who did all the work by hand. It is a wonderful trail with a series of swich backs taking you up to a lovely wooded mountaintop with a great view of lac Du Rocher. Then the dowhhill snakes around the back of the mountain and can be skiied at high speeds. If the gave out medals for trails, Montagne Blanche would own the podium.

Even in this low snow year the conditions at Montagne Blanche were excellent. This weekend we are planning to do the Montagne Noir Ski on Saturday and the Ridge or maybe the Khyber pass on Sunday, but plans are flexible as some members may decide to bail on Sunday. But please know that all are welcome and efforts can be made to secure equipment for those without the necessary gear, but please give us a couple of days.

Even if you don't ski, please be assure that many old timers like McAllister, Washington Dan, and dan Thoamssin have done the most difficult skis without any great problems. Just remember the club motto on all these trips...NEVER LEAVE THE GROUP!
